Business Improvement Districts - England, Wales and Northern Ireland

Business Improvement Districts in England come under the statutory legislation The Business Improvement Districts (England) Regulations 2004  with Welsh Business Improvement Districts covered by The Business Improvement Districts (Wales) Regulations 2005.

In Northern Ireland Business Improvement Districts come under the statutory legislation the Business Improvement Districts Act (Northern Ireland) 2013.

Like the Scottish legislation each of these pieces of legislation (Wales and Northern Ireland) are a reflection of devolution and differ one from the other in recognition of the different political and social landscapes of each country. The legislation is different and the correct legislation needs to be consulted depending on the country in question.

As at the 2nd July 2013 there are 138 BIDs in England, predominantly towns, cities and to a lesser extent business parks, with 2 BIDs in Wales and 2 BIDs in development in Northern Ireland.
