BARRHEAD will be awash with colour this summer as it plays host to a Rainbow Run.
The event, organised by the town’s Business Improvement District (BID), will take place in Carlibar Park in June.
A slow motion video has been posted on the BID’s official Facebook page, showing a young girl being splattered with brightly-coloured powder paint, to give residents an idea of what to expect.
This will be a fun run with a twist, as participants pass through five colour zones while tackling the 2km course.
Runners will be covered in a variety of colours as they move through each zone.
And the final part of the run will involve a 100ft-plus inflatable assault course entitled The Gauntlet.
Although it is being billed as a Rainbow Run, participants can complete the course entirely at their own pace.
Organisers hope residents will support the event in the same way they did the Barrhead Gala Day in previous years.
BID chairman Paul Santi, of the New Yorker fish and chip shop, said: “Many locals speak fondly of the Barrhead Gala, so we thought it was important to bring a large event back during the summer months, especially following the success of our Big Barrhead Christmas Lights Switch-On.
“This event has proven popular across the world and we’re looking forward to seeing how colourful we can make the town.
“It is part of local businesses’ way of giving back to the community, giving them something to enjoy in their home town at a fraction of the price other organisations charge for similar events.”
The Rainbow Run will also feature a warm-up stage, with live entertainment, and paint-themed sports stations offering different activities and funfair rides.
Tickets for the event, which takes place on Saturday, June 10, cost £10 for adults and £7 for children aged 14 and above.
Those under the age of 14 must have adult supervision.
Timeslots are available every 30 minutes between 10am and 4pm.
Included in the ticket price is a limited edition event t-shirt and an individual packet of powder paint.
